Obesity, Anaemia, and Diabetes Management

These three conditions are the “metabolic pillars” of gynecological health, particularly during the childbearing years.

Obesity Management

Obesity is a pro-inflammatory state that can lead to PCOS and pregnancy complications. Management focuses on a low-glycemic diet, medical weight loss options, and counseling on the increased risks of blood clots (DVT) and preeclampsia.

Anaemia Management

Iron-deficiency anaemia is rampant in gynecology due to heavy menstrual bleeding. Treatment includes:

  • Oral Iron: Often difficult to tolerate due to gastric side effects.

  • IV Iron Infusions: A rapid way to “top up” iron stores, especially before surgery or in the third trimester of pregnancy.

Diabetes Management

Whether it is Pre-gestational (Type 1 or 2) or Gestational Diabetes (GDM), the focus is on “tight glycemic control.” High blood sugar in early pregnancy can cause birth defects, while high sugar in late pregnancy leads to Macrosomia (very large babies), increasing the risk of birth injuries.
